Bette Midler's in trouble for illegally chopping down 230 trees on her property in Hawaii.
In truth, the libertarian in me wonders why it's the Hawaiian government's business whether or not Bette Midler or anyone else cuts down trees on their own property. But, I'm entertained that Bette Midler is exposed as a hypocrite whose bank account puts her above the laws that she wants imposed on all the rest of us little people.

And you have to love the enviro-nut doublespeak used by her attorney to defend the action:
"The whole idea with cutting the trees down was with the idea of improving the lot with native species" instead of the nonnative, invasive species that had grown there.
Why not just say, "They were my trees and I decided to have them cut down?"
At least the trees weren't adjacent to a cemetery where a Wal-Mart Supercenter is planned.
Or the other PARD excuses about native burial grounds and some white worm that only grows on the Palouse.
I am not surprised by tree laws like this in Hawaii. Look at the King county land use laws we discussed last year about not cutting down trees and similar laws that are trying to be pushed on Kitsap county.
