Iran is not a threat
Seattle newspaper cartoonist David Horsey recently published a pictorial alert for all of us who hope for an early return of our troops from Iraq. It showed Vice President Cheney standing by a large map of the Middle East. An eager President Bush asks "Is it true, Dick, that you now have a plan to get us out of Iraq?" Cheney responds "Yes, indeed," and points to the map that shows large arrows pointing from Iraq to Iran.
There are continuing hints that our military in Iraq believes Iran is supplying bombs and other weapons to Shiite militias in Iraq for operations against us. It appears that the Neocons who helped Cheney push for our invasion of Iraq are now planning entry into war with Iran. This surely will be against the wishes of the American public.
There is little evidence that Iran is a direct threat to the United States, but it is worrisome for our treaty ally Israel. Surely this is a problem for diplomacy rather than military action. A bombing of Iran will worsen the future both of Israel and the United States.

And the reply
August 15, 2007, 1:45 pm Fed Up Vet says:
Dear Malcolm and Carol,Please do tell us what "ally" and "treaty" mean. Either your thinking is just plain faulty or you are the worst kind of cowardly betrayers who will eventually find your way to the 9th circle (of hell) so eloquently described by Dante. I believe you are the latter. You are worse than Neville Chamberlain. You are beneath Vidkun Quisling. You are beyond that most notorious American traitor; Benedict Arnold. You openly and boldly undermine American society and international interests while wrapped in the flag and protected by the Constitution.
That doesn't even begin to touch upon the matter of your complete and absolute ignorance of the ground conditions in Iraq and Iran, terrorist operations, state support of terrorist operations, Iranian politics, Persian mindset, religious extremism, or a host of other things life in the sheltered environment you occupy hasn't exposed you to. Please stand back and let those charged with protecting your comfortable lifestyle do their jobs. I've heard WAY too much cowardly, ignorant sniveling and whining to even attempt civil discourse.
You're the kind of Cindy Sheehan coward that shows up professing support of the troops while encouraging greedy politicians to monkeywrench any chance they have of succeeding. Know that I and my fellow soldiers and veterans hold you to be beneath contempt.

That reply was priceless!
$10 says the pinko is in therapy after that reply. HEHEHEHEH!
I don't know about the original letter writers but the response drew out another diseased thinker, Tom Hansen. He unwisely challenged the service record of Fed Up Vet. He got a warm welcome, too.
How is that reply a reasonable response? Fed Up Vet responded to a statement, that Iran is not a direct threat to the United States, with a vicious attack on the writers. There are plenty of good reasons to be concerned about Iran's nuclear ambitions and support for insurgents in Iraq--condemning those we disagree with to the "9th circle (of hell) so eloquently described by Dante" makes conservatives look like wing-nuts.
Well, Jeff. Why don't you read the rest of the thread? Apparently, didn’t understand what was said. Let me translate it for you.
Those who undercut American war efforts in a public forum are betrayers. They aren't patriots exercising their rights as citizens. They are cowards who should be prosecuted and locked up for sedition. They profess their support of the troops then scream loudly that what the troops are doing is unsupportable. They do their best to ensure the troops can’t win. They hope to demoralize the nation to the point of capitulation. Now, is that clear enough? That’s what the post meant to me.
You see, I'm a veteran too and I know the soldier's life. I know what it feels like to be looked down upon by my fellow citizens because of my commitment to protecting our way of life. I know the effect it had on my troops to be told by anti-military jackasses that they were inferior and stupid because they chose to serve and protect the United States.
Agreed, Barenjager, but calling down condemnations and comparing cut-and-runners to Quisling won't make patriots out of them. They need to be convinced of the truth of our position, not shouted down.
Jeff,
I disagree. Nothing will make patriots of them. They are beyond convincing. Shouting them down is exactly what's called for. Especially on a matter as critical as national security.
Gotta agree with Barenjager on this one.
Debating a liberal? The only winning move is not to play.
