That'll Show Al Qaida!

A must read. John Warner: “After we’re out,” he said, “if al Qaeda wants to kill Americans they’ll have to come to America to do it, where our troops will be enjoying a well-deserved rest at home and time with their wives and children.”

As usual, Scott Ott gets right to the heart of the matter.

Sen. John Warner, R-VA, yesterday called on President George Bush to start bringing troops home from Iraq “to show al Qaeda that the U.S. commitment to fighting Muslim terrorists is not open ended."

Ah, John Warner, the senior senator from my home state. I think it was marrying Elizabeth Taylor that did him in.

That reminds me of a funny story. Back in 1978, when Warner was first campaigning for the Senate in Virginia, Liz dropped by to address the first ever Star Trek convention in Roanoke (I know, I know, but, hey I was 15.)

At that time, Liz was still quite porcine and appeared to have consumed about five Manhattans before taking the stage. She appeared just absolutely THRILLED to be there and hailed all us "Trekkies." Bad idea. Even worse idea, they scheduled Liz to come on just before the much-anticipated "Star Trek Blooper Reel."

After much cat calling, Liz was hustled off the stage by the Senator's campaign staff.
