Debunking the Wal-Mart Myths #12: Economic Growth is a Politically Incorrect Term

Last one.

Wal-Mart Myth #12 debunked by Steven Peterson, U of I Research Economist, at the Moscow Chamber of Commerce luncheon on August 23, 2006.

Charge #12: Economic growth is a politically incorrect term.

  • Although the smart growth movement has many good ideas, it is not a replacement for sound basic economic growth or sound growth policies.

  • Supporters of smart growth do not agree on a common definition.

  • Smart growth is often a muddled concept in practice. Muddled concepts produce contradictory legislation and policies.

  • Thus smart growth often leads to no growth.
