OK- that's a tease. I knew what the bottom line is - what's the story :-)
I should say, I knew what the bottom line should have been (and appears it was), so give up the story here :-)
Stretch: The hearing was extremely long and extremely tedious. PARD's attorney (Bricklin) dragged out PARD's arguments to the point of sleep among the audience. His tactic for winning was to frustrate and wear down the opposition. His ten minutes of argument was lengthened to one hour and forty minutes.
Both the Wal-Mart attorney and the City of Pullman's attorney were succinct and effective. Their combined time was about an hour. They clicked through their arguments and didn't rehash.
The judge took forever to make his ruling. He went this way and that, leading the audience on a roller coaster ride. Finally, at great reluctance and at great length, he explained why he was going to rule in the way he thought was correct. It took him forty minutes to tell us that he would not be making a written decision. In other words, we were listening to his written decision. This hearing amounted to a Readers Digest version of the two year Pullman Wal-Mart controversy, but nothing in the arguments ever changed.
