A Week of (In)tolerance

I am/have contacted FIRE in lieu of many things leading up to the WSU College Republican's screening of Obsession. For example, I received an email while I was in Santa Barbara, CA with the Young Americas Foundation:

""Hello guys,

I’ve been instructed to let you know that an announcement must be made sometime during your event about the dialogue that will follow the Obsession film which will be hosted by the Progressive Student Union across the hall from your event. I think they will be attending and will announce the dialogue/discussion, but if they don’t, keep in mind that someone has too.

Campus Involvement"

I thought that WSU had learned its lesson from last year... Looks like I have some emails/phone calls to make.

I would like to see a comprehensive list of all the occasions when a leftist event was required to announce a College Republican event.

Oh wait! I've found it. Here it is.

FIRE has been notified, and we are consulting legal advice. It looks like the WSU College Republicans are having what many call a moment where "history repeats itself." I would like to thank everyone that is standing strong with us. There will be a day when WSU accepts everyones viewpoints, no matter how unpopular they might be. I just hope it will be sooner rather than later.

Man... this is proving to be some real moonbat bait. You should keep copies of the idiocy on display in the facebook group.

Daniel, I sure hope you plan on filming this event. It would be to your benefit, I think.

Christopher Hitchens has a splendid column today defending the term "Islamofascism."

An excerpt: The attempt by David Horowitz and his allies to launch "Islamofascism Awareness Week" on American campuses has been met with a variety of responses. One of these is a challenge to the validity of the term itself. It's quite the done thing, in liberal academic circles, to sneer at any comparison between fascist and jihadist ideology. People like Tony Judt write to me to say, in effect, that it's ahistorical and simplistic to do so. And in some media circles, another kind of reluctance applies: Alan Colmes thinks that one shouldn't use the word Islamic even to designate jihad, because to do so is to risk incriminating an entire religion. He and others don't want to tag Islam even in its most extreme form with a word as hideous as fascism. Finally, I have seen and heard it argued that the term is unfair or prejudiced because it isn't applied to any other religion.

Well, that last claim is certainly not true. It was once very common, especially on the left, to prefix the word fascism with the word clerical. This was to recognize the undeniable fact that, from Spain to Croatia to Slovakia, there was a very direct link between fascism and the Roman Catholic Church. More recently, Yeshayahu Leibowitz, editor of the Encyclopaedia Hebraica, coined the term Judeo-Nazi to describe the Messianic settlers who moved onto the occupied West Bank after 1967. So, there need be no self-pity among Muslims about being "singled out" on this point.

I'm rooting for you guys, but I'd love to be celebrating Islamofascism Awareness week in New Orleans. Ann Coulter is speaking at Tulane University.

The world is truly on its head when American College Republicans are being threatened for showing a film which warns about the people who are killing our soldiers, terrorizing poor nations and have expressed glee at the thought of chopping off all of our heads. I don't get it.

April -

My thoughts exactly.

Really, I think we need to emphasize one very simple and true point to these people over and over again:

Oh, and to the best of my equipment's abilities, I'll be filming.

Daniel F Schanze said...

Red Knight, I hope you come to the event. I have not seen you for some time now. How are things going?

Actually, Paul, the Islamofascists would kill liberals first.

Good point! :)
