WSU College Republicans Pro-Fence Demonstration
Video of the WSU College Republicans border fence demonstration last week is up on YouTube.
Due to censorship, the YouTube video has been removed. Click on the image below to view the video.
Don't watch this while drinking milk or pop. You will laugh so hard, it may come out your nose.
Check out the arrogant prof at the beginning demanding a student's ID and be sure to count how many times the word "racist" is used. It's an unbelievable look in to the intolerant liberal nitwittery our college kids have to deal with on a daily basis.
I understand more video will be available later.

I'm investigating with the Office of Student Conduct whether or not it is true that a student must produce ID on demand for faculty. I think that's everyone's favorite cuddly character, Leonard, making the demand. I'm interested to know if it's true, but I've never heard of that before and I think it's suspect. If my suspicions are correct, then I intend to see what sanctions could potentially be levied against him.
I can't imagine that any one can demand student ID for someone who is in a public area on an open campus. Heck, I don't have a student ID and couldn't possibly comply, but I would have every right to be there. And how do the students know the guy is REALLY a prof?
I hate to break it to "Green Fingernails" but permission is not needed to film someone in a public place. If you don't want to be filmed, don't go there.
That girl is a nut. She already believes in Aztlan or whatever the hell it is called. She needs to take some English classes herself, she could not even pronounce ASSIMILATE!
Don't film me! HAHAHAHA!
The one guy near the ends says there is a long list of people waiting to get in... so does that mean it is okay for people to cut in front of those waiting and just come in?
What is his point? It is a right for anyone and everyone to come in? Therefore if they cut in line it is okay, because afterall everyone should be allowed in.
CR's:
I spoke to Elaine Voss, the director of the Office of Student Conduct. She said that there is nothing whatsoever in the Student Code of Conduct stating that students are required to show ID on demand to faculty or anyone else (other than law enforcement, naturally).
It may be reasonable for that to happen at certain times, such as verifying one's identity when handing in an exam. Of course, such situations are considered reasonable.
What that faculty member (looks like Leonard, acts as arrogant as Leonard, must be Leonard... unless he isn't) claimed is flat out wrong.
Where this gets interesting is that given the context in which the demand was made; the fact that his demand was made out of a sense of annoyance; that it did not serve a reasonable and constructive purpose; and, most importantly, since it was an attempt at intimidation; Voss told me that the student in question can file a complaint with the Center for Human Rights. There's a chance, however remote, that that man could face disciplinary action.
Good work posting the video and keep 'em coming!
It's also laughably ironic that Mr. Prof wants to demand ID from the students because he doesn't agree with their message. Their message of course is to require ID from non-citizens who are trying to enter our country. Liberal hypocrisy at it's finest.
Being as old as I am, I have some older Cougar Cards. My oldest one states, in part, on the back of the card "...it must be carried at all times and shown to any university official upon request..."
The very next Cougar Card says in part, "...it should be carried at all times and shown in due course of University transactions."
My most recent one says nothing about carrying it... So, it would seem logical to me, as Paul pointed out, that student did not need to produce his ID card.
That prof demanding the card was trying to intimidate the guy.
As someone who has recently spent a considerable amount of time and money to become a permanent resident of the US, I find the ignorance of "green fingernails" and "the professor" disgraceful. Every illegal immigrant who enters this country is someone who didn't play by the rules I had to. I would challenge any liberal naysayer at that rally to explain why these individuals can enter illegally, not pay income or social security taxes, and increase the burden on our already overloaded health care system while I do not receive the same privilege.
As for the request of student ID by the prof, I certainly hope a complaint is lodged against that individual. How many other times has this guy used his "position of authority" (and I use that term verrrryyy loosely) to intimidate or coerce a student? Honestly, do you think this is the first time he has pulled a stunt like that?
Can anyone identify that professor? I for one would be very interested to know exactly who he is and what position he holds.
That professor is David Leonard, from Comparative Ethnic Studies. He was and is highly innappropriate as an instructor. As a facultly member he should have been above getting into antying. Sadly, he goes looking for it.
I don't understand how people don't understand the difference between legal and illegal immigration.
David Leonard, eh? Well, I'll let the student that Mr. Leonard harassed know who he is, and that what he asked was not appropriate. I myself really didn't like this guy, and as I hear from others he a real piece of work in the classroom. Maybe his mother didn't hold him enough.
Either way, I'll be sure to let the camera man know what's up.
One of my favorite quotes: Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants; electric light the most efficient policeman.
-Louis D. Brandeis
Exposing these activists for what they are is the most effective neutralizer. As an American citizen, I am horrified that this prof would so easily slip into the cop role, demanding the demonstrators produce their papers, while the others supported him or at least stood by, expectantly.
Jason, I'm not sure exactly what you're asking here. "How can you claim to be pro-democracy while slamming any opposing view that dares to surface?"
The right to slam the opposition is what being in a democracy is all about. None of us ever claim to be perfect or saints among mere mortals. But we do know what we like and what we don't approve of, and it is our constitutional right to let people know what we think.
Don't mistake our outward denouncement of these groups as a call for censorship. We want people to know our opinion of them, but we (for the most part) respect their rights to say crazy things.
I would like to thank you all for supporting the WSU College Republicans. Let me first start by saying the "student in question" has been forwarded to this site and has been given up to date information about his options. Also, the WSU College Republicans take SLANDER and LIBEL very seriously!!! Moreover, the WSU College Republicans do not take kindly to people stifling their 1st Amendment!
I think Jason will change his tune when I post the hour of footage I have come to acquire. I assure you that the other footage will make your mouth drop. A side note, to those of you threatening WSUCollegeRepublican with legal action—STOP! Your empty threats get old and I am tired of reading them. How/who/where I acquired this footage is none of your business, but I will tell you that it is legal. I have talked to my lawyer and I am in compliance with the law. If any of you reading this would like to take this further just let me know ASAP and I will be more than happy to meet you with tremendous legal force; I’ll see you in court (this is not an empty threat).
Jason -
To the extent that you were personally involved in a peaceful counter-demonstration, one that sought to make known your point of view without attempting to resort to coercive measures intended to suppress the opposing point of view, you are to be commended! That is what is supposed to happen; it is how our democracy is meant to function. Therefore, if that is what you did, then I thank you.
As to your questions - was the protest really meant to coincide with the Day of The Dead celebrations? The fence has nothing to do with that (the real one, I mean). It's very likely that the CR's demonstration was scheduled at the same time by accident, without intent. Is there any proof that this was the intent, or is this conjecture? If so, this is a terrible thing to base an opinion on, as it would make that opinion inherently false.
As to your other question, about "slamming any opposing view that dares to surface" - what else are we to do? Remain silent? Give up and agree? We have our point of view and there are other points of view with which we do not agree. Of course we are going to refute them. It is part of debate and it is a necessary thing. Through debate we find the strengths and weaknesses of arguments, and by identifying those things, we move closer to truth, whether that means we find that we are correct or that we are wrong. If we find we are wrong, then we can learn, adjust our views or discard them completely where needed, and progress. This does not happen without debate; the alternative is blind, mute acceptance of whatever is asserted to be the truth by someone else. I prefer the former over the latter, and I suspect that you agree.
WSUCollegeRepublican would you be willing to send me an e-mail? scottywalkin@gmail.com
The Moscow-Pullman Daily News published a story on 11/10/06 (today) about the possible legal action being taken against a couple of WSU professors. I encourage all of you to read it. "The student in question" has been given updates on these latest developments. I can assure you that the WSU College Republicans are ready and more than willing to stand up for their rights. Let it be known that the WSU College Republicans are becoming fully aware of their legal options. Does WSU smell smoke... smoke from a FIRE? As in FOUNDATION FOR INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS IN EDUCATION.
On WSUCollegeRepublican's end of things, be prepared to have an hour of footage posted very soon. This footage should help the FIRE burn.
Also, let it be known that these videos will not be taken down. Only more and more footage will be posted. Do not ask where/who/how this footage came to be public. WSUCollegeRepublican has the legal right to post this PUBLIC footage. If you feel otherwise....WSUCollegeRepublican---See you in court.
Man, this just gets better and better. I can't wait for Tom to post that one (I don't have access to dnews.com)! :)
Sorry, WSUCollegeRepublican had a typo in the last comment, thus it was deleted.
Sorry Scotty, WSUCollegeRepublican cannot give you an email. As WSUCollegeRepublican has said perviously, this is quickly becoming a legal issue. WSU College Republicans thank you for your support, and the WSU College Republicans would like to point out that eventually we will have marshmallows and sticks (roasted marshmallows) for the FIRE. Would any of you like to come?
Save me a stick! :)
Jason, is the Day of the Dead observed every year on the Glenn Terrell mall? Or just this year? Could it be that the group learned of the CR's event and then planned their counter-protest to coincide? If that was the case, then the counter-protesters were using another form of intimidation. I read about the Day of the Dead and can find no link to immigration, so it seems that the holiday was being used as an excuse to stop the CR's from holding their event.
When Columbus Day rolls around again, will your group refrain from participating in protests, out of respect for me?
April -
I've been wondering the same thing, too. I cannot remember the Day of the Dead being celebrated on Glenn Terrel mall in the past, ever, starting from when I first came to Pullman in 1998 and over the last five semesters that I was working on my MA and now that I teach.
As for Columbus Day, I am half Italian, so maybe I should start counter-protesting the Columbus Day protests. He's my people! :P
Jason, I speak for the College Republicans when I say that we did not intend to have our presentation on The Day of The Dead, nor realize that it would be on the same date. If you remember, our originally planned date was on Wed Nov 1, but since the protests became so heated, we were forced to push it back one day.
On a related note, the CR's in no way wished to insult anybody's culture. Nothing at the presentation related to The Day of the Dead, and not a word on our side was spoken about this holiday. If anybody was offended on this level, I will personally appologize for that. But also realize that I am not appologizing for any wrong-doing on our part, of which there was none.
Jason, the demonstration is over. As far as I am concerned... The Red Knight already answered your question that you posed to WSUCollegeRepublican. I know for a FACT that the day of the dead rally was largely directed to the Pro-Fence Demonstration that the WSU College Republicans had. Since when does the day of the dead promote illegal immigration... and "illegitimate" boarders? You are a hypocrite.
At no point in time did any one from the day of the dead rally cite The WSU College Republican Pro-Fence Deomonstration as offensive or inappropriate in relation to the day of the dead. WSUCollegeRepublican has footage to prove this. Calling you a hypocrite is not name calling, it is exclusively an observation. Name calling is when someone calls one a racist, nazi, or... lets say a pervert; You've got mail---->Email. Bottom line, you know exactly how much the "day of the dead" had to do with the actual day of the dead and not the WSU College Republicans Demonstration. Last time WSUCollegeRepublican heard... providing awareness for the day of the dead had nothing to do with calling The WSU College Republicans racist, nazis, perverts... cussing them out...awareness?
How about WSUCollegeRepublican shares some awareness with you. It is what we call Slander, Libel and deformation of character.
Jason, this is just another attempt at your group trying to throw out the race card. Your group did it all through the demonstration and CES faculity continue to use it against the college of republicans. It is a joke and needs to stop immediatly!!! Quit trying to stifle are speech with this argument. There was no racial motivation behind any of the events that day, the only racially motivation were the individuals in the counter protests. Some people would love to believe everything is about race, but sorry to say that is no longer case.
Now let me crush your day of the dead argument. I know personally the individuals who ran the demonstration and I beleive a majority of them are catholic who were active in the demonstration. Guess what day of the dead corresponds to....oh wait its a catholic holliday that is emphasized heavily in mexico because of its large catholic population. Mexico claims it origins to the aztecs and catholics claim their own origin. We would in assence be insulting ourselves if we were to disrespect that day. Day of the dead is novemeber 1st and all saints day, the day of the demonstration, is the next day, another catholic holy day. Hmm... I wonder if I celebrate this holliday since I know all of this information. The motivation for the days chosen were because the elections were the following tuesday and it was the day that work out best for the members of the college of republicans. Like it states before there was no refrence to the day and it is another attempt by the other side to use the race card.
