The Ghost of Christmas Past

Wal-Mart announced today that it will buck the rising tide of Political Correctness and start an aggressive "Merry Christmas" marketing campaign instead of the generic "Happy Holidays".

Many retailers follow Wal-Mart's lead. If so, we can expect a return to good old fashioned Christmas spirit.

I was going to post on this then got busy at work. I remember when Santa was a Christmas Icon and not a holiday icon. "Holiday Gift" shopping? Ummm... like we shop for Thanksgiving and New Year's gifts. We shop for Christmas gifts.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I'm not particularly religious, but the fact that it is CHRISTMAS and not some generic holiday whatever doesn't bother me in the least. It has a name because it began from a particular tradition. It can retain that name even if some only want to practice part of the tradition. Last time I checked, words do not actually hurt (ruffled feathers of those who have cultivated a Constant State of Outrage(tm) not included - they're broken).

I'm glad to see that Wal-Mart will be having a Merry Christmas this year. It reminds me of the good old days, you know? Back when it wasn't a bad thing to be Christian.
