Development Terrorists in Chelan Ask for $5 Million Ransom

The "Defenders" of Small Town Chelan have clearly failed in their attempt to stop Wal-Mart there. However, they still have one card left to play. The "Defenders" have requested a writ of mandamus asking that the court to revoke Wal-Mart's ceritificate of occupancy and close the store until the zoning issue is resolved.

UNLESS that is of course, Wal-Mart forks over $5 million to a "Chelan Valley Planned Development Authority," which, of course, would be created and run by the "Defenders." They also want Wal-Mart to reimburse their legal expenses, up to $50,000 and the city of Chelan to surrender 10% of Wal-Mart's sales tax revenues for the next ten years .
