Washington State Income Tax Bill Introduced

I remember Scotty talking about this on the PES. Here is a link of the proposed bill sponsored,
Senate Joint Resolution 8209, by Senator Rosa Franklin and Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles. Both of the Senators are from the Soviet Socialist Republic of King County.

Wow, just what we need!

Part 1 says that we the voters have to approve the amendment to the state constitution so as to install the tax, but after that, Olympia gets to vote on increases to the rate.

Part 2 tries to make a distinction between income and property, calling them not the same thing. If my income is not my property, then why is it that (for now anyway) I have an exclusive say in its disposal? Incomes are an individual's property.

Part 3... you've got to be kidding me.

Part 4 - a license for Olympia to build special "crony rates" into the income tax law at the point of its enactment. Brilliant.

Taxes discourage certain activities, hence increased taxation of the consumption of such things as cigarettes, alcohol, etc. Thus, the message being sent here is "income is bad, so make sure you earn less." And as the state economy circles the toilet bowl should this stinker come to pass, I hope the people behind it realize their error.

May this bill fail and take down with it the careers of those who support it.
