Interesting Numbers

The latest numbers from the Moscow Pullman Daily News poll on the question; What's the next step you'd like to see regarding the proposed Wal-Mart Supercenter in Pullman?

As many of you know, MPDN had recently begun polling its on-line readers regarding local issues. Previous polls have concerned themselves with the palouse earthworm, the price of gas and other items of interest. The current poll asks what the community thinks should happen now that the courts have ruled in favor of Pullman and Wal Mart. The results are noteworthy in that this poll has drawn twice as many responses as any other MPDN has run and this one has a clear winner.

And the results as of this moment are....
Start Building 940 (83%)
More community discussion 33 (3%)
PARD should appeal to a higher court 159 (14%)

I especially like the wording of the last option. Though they didn't mean it this way, PARD SHOULD (emphasis added) appeal to a higher court. They should pray their neighbors can someday forgive them for their foolish and selfserving attempts to screw up our community.

And as an online poll is just as scientifically valid and relevant as a self-selecting petition, we should now trumpet this as proof that a majority of area residents support a Wal-Mart Supercenter opening.

Coincidentally or not, the 83% margin is a little more than the margin by which the PARD candidates lost the 2005 Pullman City Council election.
