Hard Working Mom (The Mom's weekend Edition)

I found this story on the Seattle PI website. It is a great story.

Emerald Downs waitress gives ponies a run for the money
By MARY SWIFT
P-I COLUMNIST

NEVER MIND what the ponies do when Auburn's Emerald Downs racetrack opens next week.

Don't worry about the fine, or not-so-fine, art of handicapping.

If you're looking for a winner, Babe Chaplin is a sure bet.

For four decades -- first at Longacres Park racetrack in Renton until it closed in 1992, then at Emerald Downs when it opened in 1996 -- Chaplin has served up cocktails and food to horse racing fans. (In between those two jobs, she worked at an off-track betting facility.)

If things go as planned, she'll retire in five years.

For the record, that will make her 90.

Wow. Maybe she shouldn't retire though. She'll probably drop dead soon after she quits working.

Ah, Emerald Downs. One thing I miss about the west side.

It was always fun to sit around on a Saturday with a beer in one hand and a DRF in the other.
