Speaking of Living Wages...

From today's Moscow-Pullman Daily News
Help Wanted

Management

ASSISTANT DISTRICT MANAGER

The Daily News Circulation Dept. has a 17-hour/week opening for an ADM. Job duties include checking service on routes, doing down routes, delivery of complaint and shortage papers. Vehicle required (mileage reimbursement). Hours: Mon, Wed, Thurs (3-7 pm or 4-8 pm), and Sat (5-10 am). $7.00/hour
No mention of benefits, so I assume there are none. If you do the math, that's $6,188 a year, well below the Federal poverty line of $19,350 for a family of four.

By way of comparison, a part-time worker at the Moscow Wal-Mart has a higher hourly wage AND health care benefits after a year's service.

I wonder what Linda Pall thinks of that? Or BJ Swanson? I'm especially anxious to hear Nathan Alford's thoughts, considering he is opposed to Wal-Mart's "unfair labor practices and minimal benefits."

Just another day on the Palouse, where the hypocritical BS flows like a fountain.

The photographers position advertised in the 06/16/06 Daily News classifieds pays $9.00 an hour at 20 hours a week. That's less per hour than my son earns as a shelf stocker at Wal-Mart. Meanwhile, Nathan Alford is proud to have never shopped in a Wal-Mart. Must be nice.
