Never Stop Fighting Until The Fight Is Over

I have said before that Al Norman's advice to the anti-Wal-Martians: "Time is on your side, the longer the delay, the better chance Wal-Mart will leave" is totally bogus. Wal-Mart is incredibly patient when it comes to getting into a market they want to serve and will try over and over again, in many different ways.

For example, Wal-Mart has attempted for years to have a bigger presence in the Portland market. Wal-Mart was rebuffed in Gresham. A group is currently fighting Wal-Mart in Beaverton. And now comes news that Wal-Mart is considering Hayden Island (near Hooters!) as a location. Naturally, since Portlanders consider themselves the "Capital of Smart Growth," this is going to drive some people there crazy.

I like some of the comments on the post:
"The joker in the article would rather that people entering the city be greeted by a boarded up old hotel than a thriving retail center. More proof that Rush is right. These dolts would like to see us revert to cave man lifestyles."

"COSTCO is up 12% in sales! Tiffany is up 7% in sales! Why no whining about where they put a COSTCO, which are big ugly warehouses? AND, we have a few "Jewelry Super Stores" in the area that are huge, ugly boxes, too! No one whines about jewelry stores which have one of the highest profit margins in retail."

"A conveniently located and bustling retail center. To the barricades!"

"Dang! Walmart and Hooters together! It just don't get no better than that!"
