Highly reliable sources have just informed me that the Moscow Wal-Mart Supercenter project has been cancelled. A public announcement to that fact will be made shortly.
It is not, however, Wal-Mart's intention to serve the Moscow/Latah Couunty market with the Pullman Supercenter, although that may be the case by default for several years. Wal-Mart plans to pursue other opportunities in either Latah or Whitman County.
I have no idea what will happen with the existing Wal-Mart in Moscow, but I think it's safe to conclude it will be closed after the Pullman store opens.
I hope the No Super WalMart group enjoys their little victory party tomorrow night. They didn't really do anything. The Wal-Mart issue was decided last November when the City Council election was held.
As my grandmother used to say, Moscow has made its bed, now it has to lay in it. Meanwhile, we should throw a victory party of our own. This is the date the retail balance of power on the Palouse shifted to Pullman.
