Why not? You don't like freedom of speech Truthy? You are quick to play the racecard.
Everyone should see the side of Wahhabi (militant)Islam. Do you know how Islam treats women? Your bleeding heart will seal up quick after seeing that and Sharia law.

Careful, this might be called a hate crime.

Please, that wasn't Fred Thomson. It was Fred Phelps, Al Gore's old buddy.

See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Phelps#Support_for_Al_Gore

while you're at it, you should run a Jerry Falwell marathon to put on display all of his wonderful contributions to society. Think about this, what possible good could this bring to the table? Maybe if you showed the good and bad of Islam, it might be a little more thought provoking and respectable, but showing this is just an obvious attempt to stir up controversy... you'll become nothing more than a political hack.

I'm concerned about the hate and racism expressed by a professor who called a student a "white shitbag." But the WSU administration didn't seem to mind, so I'm sure they won't mind this either.

As for stirring up controversy, I suppose comparing the border fence to "flying the swastika in a Jewish neighborhood" isn't?

Give me a break. Either go see the movie or not. It's your choice. But if you have any more bullshit to spread about "hate" and "racism", go do it at Daily Kos or Democratic Underground. They're experts on that there. But you won't do it here.

By the way Sutra, the one issue Al Gore and Fred Phelps came together on was the only issue Fred Phelps cares about.

Gore Political Ties to "God Hates Fags" Founders Uncovered
Gore and Wife Tipper Headlined Fundraiser at Phelps' Topeka Home; Phelps Family Reportedly Invited to Clinton-Gore Inaugurations in 93 and 97

October 25, 2000

(WASHINGTON) Reports linking Vice President Al Gore with notorious anti-gay activist Fred Phelps, Jr., and the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas were confirmed with the release of photographs showing Gore at a fundraiser at the home of Fred Phelps, Jr., who told the Conservative News Service on October 16 that he served as a Gore delegate on the floor of the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta in 1988.

Gore, who was quoted by the Nashville Tennessean in 1984 saying homosexuality is not "an acceptable alternative that society should affirm" and said in his 1984 U.S. Senate race that he would not accept money from gay rights organizations and that he opposed a "gay bill of rights," reportedly sought the support of the Phelps family in his 1988 presidential campaign, and invited the Phelps' to the Clinton-Gore inaugurations of January 1993 and January 1997.

The Westboro Baptist Church runs a website called "www.godhatesfags.com" which includes virulent anti-gay statements and attacks on Jews and Catholics. The site calls the religious right "lukewarm cowards" and has an animated photograph of gay murder victim Matthew Shepard surrounded by flames, with a statement entitled "Matthew Shepard's Message from Hell." The Phelps family has gained international notoriety for picketing the funerals of gay people with signs that say "God Hates Fags."

Fred Phelps, Sr., pastor of the church, told CNS that the 1989 fundraiser held at his son's home was for Al Gore, and published several photographs on the church website to substantiate it, including one showing Gore and his wife Tipper arm-in-arm with Fred and Betty Phelps. Phelps, Sr. also told CNS that he provided office space and staff accommodations for Gore campaign staffers in the 1988 campaign.

Phelps, Sr. told CNS that Gore "looked us in the eye and gave us assurance, that, based on his Bible beliefs, he was against the homosexual agenda and the killing of babies."

"No one argues that Gore had an anti-gay record in the past. However, if it is true that he was allied with Fred Phelps as recently as 1997, then Al Gore's got a lot of explaining to do," said Rich Tafel, executive director of Log Cabin Republicans. "At this time the sources are themselves questionable, so the Vice President can end this mystery by denying any relationship with Phelps now. Most troubling is the charge that Al Gore invited Fred Phelps to his inaugurations as Vice President in 1993 and 1997. That was less than three years ago. We need some answers."

Fred Phelps, Jr. also ran for Governor of Kansas in the Democratic primary in 1990, winning over 11,000 votes and placing third.

I'd still like to know how anyone could think this will be a positive step in promoting a healthy, well rounded debate about Islam and its role in modern society...

Unknown said...

Nic, doesn't a "healthy, well rounded debate" involving covering all aspects of an issue, not just the politically correct ones?

John Stuart Mill said it best:

"He who knows only his own side of the case, knows little of that".

You see it here folks, Truthy has lost it! I sent her into an endless loop. Look how many times she posted the same thing!
Hey Truthy, without wigging out on the copy and paste again, read my post again. I talk about the militant sect of Wahhabi Islam.

Cheeky.

A closer look at the links reveals three separate documentaries.

A storm is coming...

Truthy,
They show stuff oppossed to Judaism and Christanity on television all the time. Just look at the news for one. They bash the church and Israel all the time.
But that is the difference... most of us here in America can take insults and give it out when it comes to religion in America. What if Kevin Smith, who made Dogma, which poked fun at the Catholic church, did the same to Islam?
Look at my handle, I do not see anyone here on the board who wants to cut my head off because I work on vehicles in hell.

Michael said...

Even with this film, we would not have a "well rounded" debate. This would represent one little island in a sea of politically correct gibberish. This would represent just one tiny little attempt to answer all those who claim Islam is a "religion of peace," or that muslims are the victims.

We need to start understanding that radical Islam, at least, is an ideology, just as Naziism was.

Nic said...

Tom,
If this covered all aspects of Islam I would be all about it, but that doesn't look to be the case.

April E. Coggins said...

Michael,
I would only add that "moderate" Muslims are like the "moderate" Germans who looked the other way during the Holocaust and after the truth of the concentration camps was revealed, claimed to be unaware of the atrocities going on right under their noses.

Michael said...

Well stated April.

To April and Michael's previous two comments:

Precisely why I'd like to see more of people like this woman:

http://www.muslim-refusenik.com/ijtihad.html

I learned about the concept of ijtihad in a single semester of study under Dr. Staab. It would be nice if roughly one billion or so people who it ought to apply to could remember it after several centuries.

Truth said...

I would like to again say, that if it were true and all Muslims were in a jihad against the west, would we really still be standing. 1 billion people can do an awful lot if they want to.

For radical Islam, yes, it is clearly more of an ideology than a religion. However the problem I have with the films is that they all seem to present the idea that all Muslims are radical muslims, which is incorrect. If everybody in Iraq was against the American troops there we wouldnt stand a chance, however thankfully that is not the case and we do have a chance to use our military to stabalize the situation and begin the diplomatic and political efforts which are needed.
