The Wrong Stuff

You have to love Mark Solomon’s Town Crier column in the Daily News today. He decries the confrontation over growth in Moscow, yet he is one the leading activists involved in that battle. Solomon is a major Wal-Mart opponent, having presented the Moscow City Council with a 561 signature petition asking for a review to changes in the comprehensive plan made last year in an attempt to keep a Wal-Mart Supercenter out.

Solomon compares the current situation in Moscow to Apollo 13. A more apt analogy would have been Apollo-Soyuz Test Project, when an Apollo spacecraft rendezvoused in orbit with the Soviet Union's Soyuz 19. Except in the case of Moscow, the cosmonauts have crawled through the docking tunnel and taken over the capsule.
