At first I thought he was saying the relative was a Navy Corpsman who are attached to Marines but wasn't Auschwitz liberated by the Soviets? I am trying to remember my history and geography... wasn't Auschwitz closer to the border with Poland? So the Red Army would of have hit the place first before hitting Berlin.I am sorry to say that I have never heard of Buchenwald.I noticed that the press is not reporting this story, yet they went after Hillary for that Yugoslavian sniper business. I guess we all know who the media is backing for this election.
Although I find it ironic to say that the Soviets ever "liberated" anything, the truth is that Auschwitz was is Poland and the Soviet Red Army did chase the Nazis out of Poland, overrunning Auschwitz in the process. I'm sure that Joseph Stalin applied many of the lessons of Auschwitz to his own death camps. Buchenwald was in central Germany.
Michael,You got me there. You are right, the Soviets never liberated anything. A few days ago I was reading about the Soviet invasion of Finland after Germany invaded Poland. The Russians suffered huge losses against Finland because of Stalin's purges. These losses coupled with the purges gave Germany a chance to invade Russia.
