What Do Pullman and New York City Have in Common?

More than you might guess.

A recent independent retail demand study concluded that most Pullman residents do their shopping in Moscow, much of it no doubt at the Wal-Mart there.

New York City also has no Wal-Mart. According to the New York Sun (Free Registration Required), city residents spent about $128 million in 2005 at Wal-Mart stores in New Jersey, Long Island, Connecticut, and Westchester County. That's up 30% from 2004.

With the skyrocketing cost of gas, how much better quality of life can you have by being able to do all your shopping locally, whether you live in New York City or Pullman?
