News You Won’t See…

…on Al Norman’s sprawl-busters.com, the PARD web site, or in the Moscow-Pullman Daily News.

Recently renovated Wal-Mart Supercenters in Richland and College Place (Walla Walla) opened to the public yesterday. Wal-Mart has also announced plans to build a Supercenter in Pasco. Pullman is now left as one of the only cities above 10,000 population in Eastern Washington without a Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Richland economic development director Diahann Howard said that Wal-Mart’s expansion brings new jobs and sales tax revenue to Richland, and may help increase traffic in an area the city would like to see grow.

The Tri-City Herald reported about 1,200 people applied for about 200 openings at the Richland Wal-Mart. So much for no one wanting to work at Wal-Mart.

Don’t worry, that will be us soon.

When I was a teen I sure wish I had the chance to work at a Wal-Mart. The RATS expect teens to just wake some day as adults and have a good work ethic. That is something that is learned and Wal-Mart would be a great place for our childern to start that learning curve. Besides there are a lot of adults that would enjoy a second job. I guess so as tom pointed out 1200 people looking for those 'low-paying jobs'. Bring it on PARD

Those poor 1200 people in Richland must really be blind. Only 200 available jobs at Wal-Mart. Imagine how the 1000 who didn't get a job felt. According to PARD they should feel lucky to have dodged such a bullet.

Maybe we need to get some yard signs to spread around Pullman indicating we support Wal-Mart. I think it is time to take a stand. I still think it is highly suspicious as Russell Hall said in the Evergreen that the Evergreen seems to support PARD and T.V. Reed is the new associate Dean of CLA. Things that make you go hmmmm....

#1 what is T V Reed & CLA???

T.V. Reed is one of the leaders of PARD and CLA is the College of Liberal Arts. The Daily Evergreen is part of the College of Liberal Arts, which controls part of their funding. I'm guessing they have to support PARD in some fashion or maybe lose some of their funding if the new Associate Dean isn't happy.
