With One Week to Go, McGavick Closing the Gap!

The latest poll from Zogby and the Wall Street Journal , conducted Oct. 23-27, confirms that the Washington Senate race is closing fast. With one week to go, Mike has cut Maria Cantwell's lead to just 4 points. Democratic incumbent Maria Cantwell's lead fell to four percentage points after holding at seven percentage or more in every Zogby poll since July.

With one week to go, we have a real opportunity to win this race and change Washington for the better. How? By getting out the vote. Return your ballot now and volunteer now to help send Mike to the U.S. Senate.

Currently, Zogby projects the Senate to go as follows:
Republican 52
Democrat 46
Independent 2

Here's a thought I've been kicking around: I think Guthrie (the Libertarian candidate) is going to pull votes away from Cantwell, not McGavick, even though Republicans are usually the ones who lose votes to the Libertarians. Cantwell's stance on the war has not made the ultra-left portions of her base happy, and Guthrie has come out against the war, as well as being pro gay marriage and pro marijuana legalization. The typical Libertarian fiscal conservatism will not win him any Republican voters who would be primarily concerned with those things, since they can already get that in McGavick. So, all things summed up and cast into the context of this race, I'm predicting that Guthrie is going to scalp Cantwell's lead, and the race will go to McGavick.

Thoughts?

Paul,

David Postman at the Seattle Times agrees with you and thinks McGavick's latest ad is targeting those voters; http://blog.seattletimes.nwsource.com/davidpostman/archives/2006/10/mcgavicks_new_iraq_ad.html

I think it's going to work. We may finally be rid of Cantwell.

I love how they keep trying to reconcile themselves with "this is a sign of desperation for McGavick." This whole time, I'm sure Cantwell and her camp ignored the anti-war faction of her base, and now they're realizing that those people do have another option. Considering the ultra-lefties can have a Green, they're gone, and as I said before, Guthrie is going to take more.
