"School levy vote set Tuesday in Pullman"

From today's Moscow-Pullman Daily News:
Voters in Pullman will go to the polls Tuesday to decide the fate of two levies for the public schools.

The maintenance and operations levy will collect at most $3.68 per $1,000 of property valuation, and the technology levy is based on a collection rate of 19-20 cents per $1,000 valuation. If approved, the levies will continue taxes collected in recent years for school operations.

The M&O levy would run for two years, collecting $3,645,000 in 2007 and $3,700,000 in 2008. Funds raised account for about 23 percent of the operating budget of the Pullman public school system.

The technology levy, the smaller of the two measures on the ballot, supports the replacement of obsolete computers and software. One of the district’s short-term goals is increased Internet access.

Computers are considered as capital under Washington law. Therefore, they can only be bought via the special technology levy.

The technology levy would collect $200,000 per year for each of six years.

Well sorry I will be voting NO. After seeing the show 20/20 a few weeks back about the Stupid America. My question is to all where is the $10,000.00 plus per pupil going now. Before we give "the system" more lets account for what they have spent over last few decades. The Unions have run public education into the ground and it is broke and broke bad. That is not in a monetary sense it is morals and plain lost educational value. In World Magazine Joel Belz has a good one; read this and take the test, I failed most of this 8th grade test and I am sure that most of you will not make a 100% either. Here is a url http://worldmag.com/articles/11503 A Real Test - World Magazine. I would bet that Pullman seniors would fail this test by about 80 to 90% of all who would take it. The Unions have 'dumbed' down our children. More money is Not The Answer. Vote NO…..
